DECEMBER

I’m very happy to be showing with Ellie Hipkin at MangeTout this Christmas, from 10 December to 14 January. This is my third show here, and I love it. The staff are unbelievably nice, it’s a great atmosphere, really delicious food and great service - and the art ain’t bad neither. If you’re in Brighton and need artistic and delicious sustenance, this is the place to be. As for me, I love showing here.

Mark Rothko did very well in restaurants, after all.

It’s called ‘What I Think About When I Think About My Mother (Home Place)’

This is an ArtCan show sponsored by Suna Interior Design, staged in an extraordinary space.

NOVEMBER

DO NOT OBSTRUCT gallery

I am excited to be taking part in the first group show at the Do Not Obstruct Gallery in Kemptown in Brighton from 2-27 November 2022.

The gallery runs incredible pop up shows in random and exciting venues across the city, this year in the disused Hippodrome Building and the old Cab Run, a cobbled space below the train station previously used by the horse and carriage taxis.

My work will be on display in the gallery itself with a really dynamic range of other artists throughout November. Subscribers get first invites to the Private View. Come and see!

BRIGHTON FESTIVAL 2022

ART TOUT a MANGE TOUT

OUTSIDE OPEN STUDIO 12/13th December

Described prosaically by my husband as ‘your bits and pieces’ sale, this is an opportunity for subscribers and followers to come and raid my studio and scoop up end-of-line prints and one-off pieces, cards, ABCs and children’s pieces, and even some mugs and cushions.

Entry will be both online (on instagram), and/or through our back gate, outside in the garden, with mulled cider and mince pies to warm up our exhausted Covid souls. We will arrange general times in advance.

By invitation or enquiry.

‘LOCKDOWN LANDSCAPES’

I am so happy for the opportunity to be showing a range of work at this time, featuring all the small new watercolours that I have done recording the walks I have taken around the South Downs with my family during lockdown. All new work is presented unframed, and for sale at under £100 as part of @artistssupportpledge

THE HAZE OF DAYS

Brighton Festival - three weekends in May 2019, 28 Osborne Villas, Hove BN3 2RR

Summer days and haze, heatwaves and cold days - this selection of large paintings continue my look at our increasingly blended seasons and their sensual impact on us; and how that sensual impression blends with our memories of place and the time. With a focus on colour and light, the paintings are paired with poems about memory, nostalgia and regret.

WASHING LINES

Brighton Festival - four weekends in May 2019, 118 Balfour Road

o me, washing lines are such a great doorway into what unites us and I love painting them. Wherever, whoever and whatever we are, we all have to wash and hang our clothes. It is hard to hang washing in a hurry, and so this domestic imperative forces us to slow down, pause, concentrate on shaking out creases and pegging up, finding creative places to dry, be it in or between trees, on balconies, between posts or tables, or strung between buildings.

Talking to people about washing always elicits memories and stories - of moments with dead grandmothers, out in gardens, passing up pegs; of warming still-damp vests on oven doors, to send you off toasty to school; of tears over sheets… a relentless fact of life, but part of the comfort of domestic rhythms, too.

This selection of paintings is a mixture of my more traditional style and this more graphic work.

Water, flowers and light is my theme for this gorgeous open house just up from Lewes Station.

I’m showing work in a range of different formats, from large 100x100cm framed canvases, to framed and unframed, ‘handfinished’ (hand painted and unique) prints, and smaller framed original works on paper. And for anyone looking for a great children’s gift, you can also find my ABC prints.
