I love a snow painting. A print of my favourites - Albert Marquet’s ‘Pont Neuf a la Neige’ (1938) has hung in our living room for the last 20 years. I loved the tiny people, their mood and movement represented in quick, simple brushstrokes.
About 10 years ago I went to Helsinki to meet up with a friend from New Zealand who was up in this hemisphere for an education conference in Finland. There was 6 foot of snow, and more expected and the whole country carried on regardless. It was amazing to see. From the window of our hotel, I saw children and parents on their way to school and work in the park beyond. Having conversations, arguments, rushing, dawdling, hanging out - the Winter lights had started to go up, and the ice rink was being opened ready for the Christmas holidays. This is where this painting came from - and that friend from New Zealand bought the original.
I hand finish each one, by adding a metallic gold for the winter lights, and changing the skyline at the back, and I add a new person into the picture every time - each one is different and unique.
Available in sizes from 40×40cm to 80×80cm, on 350g Verona Rag paper or as a framed or unframed canvas print.
