The poem tells of a longed for, dreamed of retreat to one of the beautiful Arran Islands off the West coast of Ireland, where the writer will grow beans in rows, and keep bees, and listen to the linnet’s flight in the evening. The poem suggests a gentle heavenly existence, peaceful and calm.
I imagine the bluest turquoise textured sky, wet with rainfall, squinting pink skies above, time slowed, peace falling.
The four lines represent an incomplete five bar gate as life is counted out in daily beats.
