Water connects us all through our physical composition, through necessity, through oceans and lakes and rivers. It flows around us as individuals, peoples, countries, critical for all that lives on the planet.
This work is inspired by the research of New Zealand based artist and writer Veda Austin who investigates the responsiveness of water to human consciousness and found objects, her work bridging science, art and spirituality. She explores water as an intelligent, responsive medium, documenting how it forms intricate patterns in response to human thought, words, and emotions.
She did a series of experiments that I am really keen to recreate, in which she placed objects, such as a leaf, into different types of water, and then removed them – when that water was frozen, it recorded an impression of what had been put into it.
